As readers well know, The Mother Church is, in a modest degree, radiocasting Christian Science programs and services. The programs are given from radio studios and, at present, consist of a half-hour each Sunday afternoon over short-wave station W1XAL (W-one-XAL) and a weekly half-hour on Wednesdays over WORL. The services are those of The Mother Church radiocast direct from the Church auditorium, namely, on the first Sunday of each month, morning and evening, over short-wave station W1XAL, and on the first and second Sundays, the morning service, by station WORL. The Manager of Committees on Publication arranges and supervises the radio work done in Boston, and supervises that which is carried on by state Committees throughout the Field.
From time to time reports giving the results from this radiocasting of the message of Christian Science are collected. These responses come from nearly every state of the United States, and occasionally from outside the North American continent. Some of them, it will be seen, relate to the radiocasts of branch churches, while a large number have to do with the radio programs arranged for by the Committees on Publication. Glancing them over, one sees a request to know the title of Mrs. Eddy's book—"Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"; also a report of a woman who thought she was bitterly opposed to Christian Science, but having heard a radio message on that subject, thereafter called upon a friend to inquire where she could procure some Christian Science literature. The radio message had healed her opposition. One finds a letter from a woman who listened to a radiocast from Chicago station and found that what was said agreed with her own thinking more than any religion she had known, and so she wished to know more about Christian Science. An extra large attendance is reported at a branch church, some of the new attendants stating afterward to the First Reader that they had heard a radiocast program and had come to the service because of it.
A woman who had had paralysis for ten years and who listened to a radio program on Christian Science, was freed from this physical handicap. The following day she went to the Reading Room for a copy of Science and Health. A non-Christian Scientist went into a cigar store and found several there listening to a Christian Science lecture over the radio. One of the listeners remarked in the newcomer's hearing that another of the group, having a brother who was ill at home, thought that in hearing the lecture he might learn something helpful to tell his brother. A woman in San Francisco gave a testimony in one of the local branch churches to the effect that her daughter had been in bed three days suffering from influenza; and that she, the mother, having listened to a radio program on Christian Science, returned to her daughter's room and told the daughter of the truth she had heard, and the daughter was healed.
