Felt ye the power of the Word?...

"Felt ye the power of the Word?" (Poems by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 75.) How often has the arresting vitality in these words from our Leader's poem healed me!

At one time, when far from human aid, I was suddenly attacked by a virulent epidemic prevalent in the country. I clung to the power of these words from "Unity of Good" by Mrs. Eddy (p. 8): "What you see, hear, feel, is a mode of consciousness, and can have no other reality than the sense you entertain of it." Although I was seemingly in high fever and growing very weak, all through the night I held to the truth that my condition was "a mode of consciousness," and only what I made of it. I knew that these words had been proved by our Leader, and that I could trust them. The morning dawned with my healing complete, and "the power of the Word" a staff on which to lean.

On another occasion, what seemed to be a pimple appeared on my arm. As time passed it developed into an ugly growth. In this instance I could easily have called for aid. But I gloried in the opportunity to prove my understanding of Christian Science. I recognized that the condition was trying to impress my thought with its importance and seriousness. However, I knew that what my eyes saw of discord was wholly illusion, dream, and fable. Never once did I fear its claim to power.
