When first I heard of Christian Science there was utter...
When first I heard of Christian Science there was utter lack of comprehension and slight disdain. Then Science forced itself upon my attention through a friend. Later a situation arose in which I urgently needed help and advice. Almost ridiculing myself, I made up my mind to "try" Christian Science. I went in search of help, and as is always the case when Spirit leads, I made straight for the right source. I was immediately deeply interested, and much I had never dreamed of dawned upon me. I received some helpful explanations, and work for my problem was begun. I cannot describe my surprise and joy when soon afterward the solution for it came in a letter from afar! The words seemed to stand out as if written in golden letters, and I felt that Christian Science was true. From that day on this teaching has been the backbone of my life.
The incumbent material steps followed. In spite of a belief of nervousness, I stood up at a Wednesday meeting and diffidently gave a testimony of gratitude. Then I became a member of a branch church. After an interval, membership in The Mother Church followed. Then came the crowning experience of going through class, with its subsequent yearly Association meetings, and all the instruction, uplifting, guidance, happiness, and the blessings these bring. But now looking back I realize that one of the human footsteps I have not yet taken is the testifying to my gratitude in writing, so that all may read. Therefore I submit this testimony of deepest gratitude for Christian Science, which through Mrs. Eddy's discovery has taught us the way through Christ, to God.
The demonstrations which have blessed my life since this truth was revealed to me are too numerous to mention. For the wonder and beauty of them, both spiritual and physical, I thank God. Perhaps the greatest of these is the discovery which came to me, through attending class, that Christian Science is world work, that the solving of our own problems is but a steppingstone to the larger issues of our Father's business. All my life I used to feel that each individual should be doing something to help the world to further good. Now the answer to that almost subconscious yearning of the unillumined past has come.
