Communion

I have in Mind a universe divine
Where things are golden thoughts, the myriad strings
That make of heaven a mighty harp that sings
The song of Truth and Love, my bread and wine.
And often in the quiet eventide
I leave my earthly all, and time and space,
To dwell receptive in the secret place
Where all those living harmonies abide.
The choicest music from a genius' hand
But vaguely intimates that joyous strain—
As untaught children lisping some refrain
May hint a symphony and master's wand—
Yet only by Love's song I understand
Eternal Life, and true communion gain.
