In the year 1900, while traveling, my wife met a lady who had been healed of consumption through the study of Christian Science. We became interested in this Science and purchased a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and other writings by Mary Baker Eddy, and started to study and attend the church services. We disposed of all the medicines we had on hand and decided that Christian Science would be our only physician and guide.
About two years later my wife called my attention to the fact that one of the children seemed to have scarlet fever. Wishing to be obedient to the laws of the land, we called the Board of Health. The next day a doctor came to the house, ordered us quarantined, and said that this was a severe case of scarlet fever. He wanted to treat the child, but my wife told him that we were having Christian Science treatment. A practitioner was called on the case, and in a few days all manifestation of this disease had disappeared. The child who was ill and the three other children were kept in for four or five weeks, but they never missed a meal or any sleep, nor did they experience any difficulty during that time, but acted well and happy. Many so-called children's diseases have been overcome through the application of Christian Science.
About twelve years ago I was stricken with ptomaine poisoning and called my assistant to come and get my office keys, as I could not be at work. He told my superior officer that he did not think I would ever work again. My daughter called a Christian Science practitioner, and in two days I was able to be out; in two weeks I was back at my work. About two years ago I was healed in one treatment of what appeared to be muscular rheumatism. Recently, while I was reading, everything became blank and my eyes became crooked; but I worked earnestly in Christian Science, knowing that real sight is eternal and that it cannot be impaired by mortal sense. With the aid of a practitioner, I am now able to read and study as before.
