The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Elyria, Ohio (First Church).

Lecturer: James G. Rowell; introduced by Richard Fullington Stevens, who said:—

The account in the first chapter, in which it is stated that "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good," appeared to me—and rightly, as I now understand it—greatly at variance with the tragic narrative of Adam and Eve which follows. From that time my interest in religion declined until it had become to me speculative and incomprehensible mysticism, remote from daily living.
