May I again have space to reply to questions regarding Christian Science presented in "A. C. L. 's" letter of recent date? Let me say most emphatically that Mrs. Eddy did not found a new religion. She did, however, discover the great spiritual healing truth, demostrated by the prophets, by Christ Jesus, by his disciples, by Paul, and by the early Christians for about three hundred years after the resurrection. From that time up to its discovery by Mrs. Eddy, this healing truth had lain practically dormant—a lost art.

With regard to our critic's statement concerning rites "necessary to salvation," it will be helpful to consider what humanity expects to be saved from. Most human beings are greatly interested in salvation from sickness, distrees, misery, discord, disaster, fear, sin, and death. Such salvation must result in peace, happiness, health, holiness, and harmony—the kingdom of heaven, the government of good.

Christ Jesus and his disciples proved that the achievement of this salvation can be wrought out here and now, through a correct understanding of the truth which they taught and practiced.
