The Deliverer

From the ceaseless babel
Of the voices of the sons of men,
O Lord, deliver us!

Help us to still them in our hearts, O Lord,
As Jesus through Thy Word did still
The tempest that once raged on Galilee,
And give us peace in which to worship Thee—
In which to listen for Thy voice,
And all the sweet and tender voices of Thine angels
That are ever speaking all around us,
If we but hush the harsh, discordant noises of the world,
And listen only unto Thee.

Give us to know, as Jesus knew,
Of Thine almighty truth and love,
By which he spoke
Thy mighty, Peace, be still;
By which, when all his storms
Of mortal sense were through,
He said: My peace I leave with you.
