It is about twelve years since I first took up the study of Christian Science. Since then we have had numerous healings in our home through the understanding and application of this truth, some through my own understanding, others through the help of practitioners. One of my first healings was of tuberculosis of the bowels, which came through the reading of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Later followed healings of rheumatism, influenza, eczema, and partial deafnees.
When our boy was three years old, he was so badly scalded on the left side from the waist down that when the clothing was removed, practically nothing was seen but raw flesh and blisters. A practitioner was called at ten o'clock in the morning and before eleven the child was playing as usual. One week later I removed the cotton bandage and there was only a tiny spot, which soon disappeared. Three years later this same child developed a very stubborn cough, and although Christian Science was applied, there was apparently no improvement. In Science was Health (p. 420) our Leader tells us, "If students do not readily heal themselves, they should early call an experienced Christian Scientist to aid them." This was done, but the cough grew steadily worse. My husband, not being a Scientist, became alarmed and called a doctor, who visited us the following day, but could not diagnose the case; neither did he suggest any means whereby he thought the child might be helped. The doctor was dismissed and Christian Science treatment continued; the practitioner, making one call at the house, helped mostly by absent treatment, and in less than two weeks the child was free and going to school.
I am unceasingly grateful for all of our healings and for the spiritual understanding gained; for our Leader, who through her obedience to God was able to give to the world her textbook; for The Christian Science Board of Directors, the lecturers, teachers, practitioners, and all who have helped and are helping me to understand God.—(Mrs.) Edith F. Campbell, Carleton Place, Ontario, Canada.
