Signs of the Times

Religion is at the crossroads. Shall it take the road to political expediency or remain on the path of righteousness? Two thousand years ago Jesus directed the choice: "Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's." Later the people, or at least the irresponsible mob which was no different from the mobs of our day, rejected that advice and made the wrong choice. Faced with the dilemma of choosing between Jesus, the man of peace, or Barabbas, the man of violence, force, and bloody revolt, they chose the latter, and thus has the choice been among all misguided people ever since. ...

What will this Easter bring? Will it bring peace on earth or will it bring war to an already suffering humanity? War has never solved one problem and it has ever brought a dozen additional woes for every one that existed before. Benjamin Franklin's words are still true: "There never was a good war nor a bad peace." To glorify might, hate, prejudice, force, violence is the fruit of a philosophy which says that "the people must be misled." Religion and humanity cry aloud for an Easter message of hope, of courage, of human brotherhood, of renewed loyalties of faith.
