Consistency

Christian Scientists have received a great revelation of God and His creation, including individual man. They have learned through Christian Science of God's allness and perfection and of man as His perfect image or reflection; and by this understanding of spiritual being they are able to distinguish between the real and the unreal, the true and the false. Thus spiritually equipped, they are empowered to discard the unreal and to hold consistently to the good, the true, the eternal. On page 242 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy writes, "The divine Science of man is woven into one web of consistency without seam or rent." As students of this Science put their understanding into practice, they cannot fail to be faithful in righteous endeavor and example.

Without doubt it is the reliability of the Science which they understand that establishes the consistency of the lives of Christian Scientists. They have put to the test and have proved the truth of its teachings. They have demonstrated the power of the truths it reveals in healing sickness and sin, in dispelling loneliness, and grief, for themselves and others. Not a single earnest student of this Science but has proved the saving efficacy of spiritual truth. And many of them have also experienced the protecting and guiding of divine Mind by applying the method of scientific approach to God which Christian Science teaches, namely, the exercise of humbel faith in His unalterable goodness and prayerful affirmation of the truths of absolute being.

Having been blessed as they have, it is entirely reasonable that Christian Scientists should be consistent in their lives. "Take heed therefore," said Jesus, "that the light which is in thee be not darkness." The light of spiritual understanding which Christian Science radiates is the very antithesis of material darkness; but students of this Science must use their understanding continously, in order that they may bless others consistently by the saving and healing power of the truth. Our Leader says (Science and Health, p. 354): "Consistency is seen in example more than in precept. Inconsistency is shown by words without deeds, which are like clouds without rain."
