Resurrection

In the Glossary of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 593) Mrs. Eddy defines "resurrection" in part as "material belief yielding to spiritual understanding." Christian Science shows the crucifixion of Christ Jesus as providing the opportunity for making the demonstration of the resurrection.

From the beginning of his mission Jesus was progressing toward the fruition of the resurrection and ascension. The experience on Calvary was an experience on the way, something to ascent out of. Daily and hourly resurrection, "material belief yielding to spiritual understanding," was occurring in his experience, as it is in ours, if we are following him.

The resurrection was not confined to his three days' experience—it was his lifework. Resurrection could not be thwarted by crucifixion, for it proved the truth of spiritual being, and served as a consummation of Jesus' daily demonstration. He knew he could not fail, for he knew that own identity, and knew that spiritual fact would save him from accepting any denial of this identity. Fear could not cloud his radiant spiritual clear-sightedness; suffering could not obliterate his spiritual integrity; death could not blot out his immortality.
