Security on "the Rock of Christ"

While mankind has always yearned for security and protection against the hazards and injustices of human life, this longing has probably never been greater or more widespread than it is today. Not only are those who are living in the fear of want crying out for security, but many statesmen and leaders in public affairs, all over the world, are conducting elaborate researches in an honest endeavor to find some political or economic system that will afford greater security for the people.

Confronted with these conditions, what a blessed relief it is to realize that a complete and practical remedy for insecurity and, in fact, evil of every nature, is to be found in the inspired Scriptures and in the teachings of Christian Science.

A word used in the Bible connotes security, the word "rock." It is used to convey the idea of eternality more than one hundred times in the Old and the New Testament. Sometimes "rock" metaphorically refers to God, and sometimes to the Christ, and conveys the thought that security, safety, and protection are to be gained through knowing the Supreme Being. In speaking of Peter's recognition of the Christ, Jesus said, “Upon this rock I will build my church.”
