In your last issue a correspondent quotes a number of passages from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and asks how I can reconcile the beliefs of Christian Science with the Holy Scriptures. He concludes his letter with a statement and a Bible text with which all loyal Christians would agree, when he says: "Conscience can only be a safe guide when illuminated by the Holy Spirit and directed by the Word of God. To the law and to the testimony, if they speak not according to this Word, there is no light in them."

The first tenet of Christian Science is (Science and Health, p. 497), "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life." Following this injunction, Christian Scientists are daily studying the beloved Bible and are gaining ever more blessing and inspiration from it, and know that they will continue to do so.

Perhaps if I answer one of your correspondent's questions it may indicate, in some degree, the answers to the others.
