"The only I, or Us"

"And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness." How important it is that mankind should know exactly what the "us" and "our" here referred to actually signify! We can know what man is only in knowing of what this "us" or "our" really consists.

On page 591 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy defines "Mind" in part as "the only I, or Us; the only Spirit, Soul, divine Principle, substance, Life, Truth, Love." What illumination this throws on the above-quoted Bible verse, "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness," the likeness of Spirit, Soul, divine Principle, substance, Life, Truth, Love!

Man, then, is made in the image and likeness of infinite Spirit; therefore, he is wholly spiritual. His only ancestry is the good, the pure, and the everlasting. His only heritage is eternal perfection, completeness, and freedom. He expresses the infinite divine ability, and the moral and spiritual might of infinite Spirit. As the image and likeness of indivisible, infinite, sinless, self-existent, and eternal Soul, man is without sin. He expresses, reflects, and manifests the infinite resources of Soul. Consequently he is fully supplied. He is the embodiment of spiritual soundness and spiritual freedom, and is substantial in his freedom, for Soul is substance. These truths furnish the foundation for our demonstrations.
