On page 4 of her Message to The Mother Church for 1902 Mrs. Eddy writes, "Our thoughts of the Bible utter our lives;" and in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 214), "My students need to search the Scriptures and 'Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,' to understand the personal Jesus' labor in the flesh for their salvation: they need to do this even to understand my works, their motives, aims, and tendency."

Before I knew of Christian Science I was a very sick and miserable woman suffering from acute neurasthenia and insomnia with all the attendant ills that accompany this condition. I tried every kind of treatment known to the medical profession, including an operation, injection, exercise, diet, rest, change of air, medicines, patent foods, drugs, massage, and even suggestion. The doctors and nurses who attended me during these years were very kind, but the fact remains that none of these treatment brought me any lasting benefit, and gradually I grew worse. I had been told that God sends sickness to improve our characters, so I decided that as this seemed cruel and unjust I did not want anything to do with God. The Bible was an unknown book to me.

As the result of Christian Science treatment, today I am enjoying health, peace, and happiness. My children also have been healed quickly of various ailments through this treatment.
