It is a great and joyous privilege to express my gratitude...

It is a great and joyous privilege to express my gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for me. When I took up the study a number of years ago I had many ills: catarrh, chronic constipation, rheumatism, nervousness, and an aneurysm, the latter causing many complications. The doctors had given up my case as hopeless; no medicine could give me relief, and an operation would mean instant death as the aneurysm was in the left side below the heart. This caused constant pulsation over the entire body. I also had sick headaches that were almost unbearable.

One evening I heard two persons discussing Christian Science. It seemed that I arose from the depths of despair and hopelessness in a moment, and that I had seen, as the shepherds of old, the star of Bethlehem—the divine idea, Christ, Truth. I was visiting a sister in a near-by city at the time, and I was at the Christian Science Reading Room when it opened the next morning. Never shall I forget how lovingly the librarian met me, and how beautifully she talked about God, telling me that He is Love, Life, Truth, All-in-all; that He "healeth all thy diseases;" and that He does not send suffering and sorrow to His children. I at once asked for help from a practitioner, which was given. After a few treatments I was healed of chronic constipation of years' standing.

The other troubles passed into nothingness in a very short time, all except the aneurysm. The belief that this was utterly hopeless and incurable was so deeply embedded in my thought that it was slow to yield, and it was six years before I was entirely healed. It seemed as if I passed through the wilderness of discouragement, doubt, and fear. When discouragement tried to talk to me, this beautiful promise from Isaiah was ever with me: "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." This always gave me new courage, for we are taught in the Bible that "God is no respecter of persons," and also, as Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 494), that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need."
