I wish to express my deep gratitude for Christian Science,...
I wish to express my deep gratitude for Christian Science, and for all the blessings which I have received since I began the study of it. My first healing was of kidney disease. I had been under a doctor's care for two years and was so ill that I had no desire to live. A friend came to talk to me about Christian Science and asked me to attend a lecture that was to be given on Sunday afternoon. I shall always be grateful for the truth that was unfolded in that lecture. I began to attend the church, bought Science and Health and the Christian Science Quarterly, and began to study. I was healed of the kidney disease by studying the textbook. It was wonderful; however I had to learn later that we cannot stand still, but must go forward.
Some years later I became very ill, so ill that the fear I might pass on had to be overcome. I obtained the aid of a practitioner, for which I am very grateful, as it helped me to be calm and trust God. The trouble was an internal growth; the bowels were practically paralyzed, and I was very much distressed; but I knew that I must turn away from error to Truth. I steadfastly declared the truth, and one day as I was studying the Lesson-Sermon these lines from Science and Health (p. 505) stood out: "Spirit imparts the understanding which uplifts consciousness and leads into all truth." Then I realized that I was free. I knew that this disease was not true, for God had not made it, and that as God's child I could claim my freedom. My heart was full of joy; and the next morning the growth passed from me, and the bowels started to function properly. I had been in bondage to this trouble for several years. Now I feel a sure and unwavering conviction of the power and presence of infinite divine Love.
My greatest desire is to be a worthy follower of our Leader. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church and for the privilege of teaching in the Sunday school; for the literature which brings so many helpful messages; and for the work of every faithful Christian Scientist.
