Our Messenger for Peace

The first daily newspaper printed in the English language was published by a woman (in London, England, in 1702); and it is interesting to note that The Christian Science Monitor, the great daily international newspaper, which today is carrying in its columns the message of good will to the entire world, should have been established by a woman, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.

What deep joy it must have given our beloved Leader when, after waiting patiently for many years, she felt the movement established by her had grown to the point where she could launch this great gift to all mankind! The Christian Science periodicals, including the Monitor, our swift-winged messengers for peace, are reaching out to the ends of the earth, lighting up the dark places of fear with the glorious assurance that the way of salvation has been made plain to all who have eyes to see. In Habakkuk we read that "the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea."

The Christian Science Monitor, with its inspiring message to all mankind, is carrying the loving and wonderful information of the good which is being brought to light everywhere. In this way it is having its part in the great work of Christian Science which must eventually bring all mankind together. As countries and nations learn to know and understand one another, a foundation of permanent friendship is laid, each rejoicing in another's good; and whether or not they speak the same language, they can all learn in Christian Science to speak the one divine language, through the spiritual understanding which is bringing peace and good will to earth. The understanding of the great fact that there is one Father-Mother God of all, as shown in Christian Science, will gradually change the thinking of the whole world, and ultimately mankind will become conscious of the truth which our Master, Christ Jesus, promised would make men free.
