I respect the evident desire of your correspondent "Anti-Humbug"...

Birkenhead Advertiser

I respect the evident desire of your correspondent "Anti-Humbug" to arrive at a clear statement of facts regarding the Christian Science organization and its Founder, Mary Baker Eddy.

Mrs. Eddy's influence is wholly due to her teaching. Interesting as her personality must have been, and interesting as her organization may be, the importance of these matters is secondary to that of her great mission of teaching the Science of Christian healing. She speaks with the utmost simplicity and humility of her work, and, referring to herself, says in Science and Health (Pref., p. ix) that "to-day, though rejoicing in some progress, she still finds herself a willing disciple at the heavenly gate, waiting for the Mind of Christ."

I would suggest that it would be an interesting and enlightening experience for your correspondent if he would put aside temporarily his investigations of the history of the Christian Science organization and of its Founder, and begin to investigate and to study the Science and art of Christian healing. I cannot help thinking that the time would come when he would exclaim, with the man born blind who was healed by Christ Jesus, "One thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see."
