Our High Calling
In a world comprised of countless useful and what are considered essential activities, it is always recognizable that some individuals seem better qualified to fill certain places and engage in particular phases of activity than are some others. Hence it has come to be thought that everyone must have his vocation or what is sometimes thought of as his "calling."
Many thoughtful people throughout every land are realizing through the daily study and application of Christian Science that they have a high calling, a place that God calls them to fill. Every student of Christian Science begins to see that what he learns of the truth he is called upon to use and demonstrate sooner or later. Like Paul, "forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before," he presses "toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Surely there is no higher calling than to strive to be a good Christian Scientist.
The earnest student in endeavoring to fulfill this mission finds that his place in human affairs is being adequately and beautifully provided for. Though he may, and undoubtedly does, encounter many obstacles, many incidents, experiences, and occasions that would tempt him to turn from this calling, he resists such arguments, knowing that to forsake his objective, even momentarily, would only mean retracing his steps and beginning again. He learns to live in the now, not yesterday or tomorrow, and in the the ever-presence of divine Love.
