May I drop a letter into the Christian-Evangelist post...

Christian Evangelist

May I drop a letter into the Christian-Evangelist post office in reference to the letter in the Christian-Evangelist entitled "The Church and Divine Healing," by a clergyman?

High praise is due to this clergyman for stanchly championing the cause of divine healing. He does not fear to take Jesus at his word in all respects! Surely divine healing is the manifestation of God's ever present law and should be an understood actuality among us, to be mastered and made practical among men, as Christ Jesus taught, who said, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do."

I am offering correction, or reply, to the clergyman's remark in his letter that Christian Science is "neither science nor Christian." Christian Science is doing this very thing that he criticizes the church for not doing: Christian Science is proving that Jesus' healing works were the result of the operation of law—God's ever operative law, understood and used by Jesus. God's law never changes, and is as capable of being demonstrated today in healing sickness as well as sin as in Jesus' time. How else could Jesus have told us to emulate his example and works! He came to reveal to men the operation of God's law. In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, is the statement (p. 134), "A miracle fulfils God's law, but does not violate that law." Christian Science is the Science or truth about God and Christianity, and teaches men how to demonstrate the healing works of Jesus today, as is attested by uncounted cases. "By their fruits ye shall know them." By healing I mean healing mind and body too, by the revealed Science of the always existing relationship of God and man.
