In appreciation of benefits derived through the study...

In appreciation of benefits derived through the study of Christian Science, and of the help I have received from the testimonies of healing given in our periodicals, I want to express my gratitude.

In 1914 I was in such despair that I had no desire to live, and often the thought of self-destruction came to me. The physicians gave me no hope and I had great fear of losing my mind. I am deeply grateful to the friend who lent me a copy of our textbook, for through the study of this book I can truly say, in the words of Isaiah, "The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light."

My first healing came after reading the chapter on Prayer. For months I had not slept normally, and had been taking a drug for this condition. I realized that I could not rely on God and a drug too, so I disposed of all the medicines I had and read Science and Health all night. Very soon after that I had a wonderful night's rest, and as I continued to read, the entire condition was healed. At the same time I was healed of a chronic throat trouble of many years' standing, and of indigestion. Since that time I have been healed of a serious ear trouble, rheumatism, and the need for wearing glasses.
