It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I tell of the many blessings brought into my life through the study and application of Christian Science. During the World War, when I was in the trenches with my section, rations failed to arrive, owing to bad weather conditions. I had the Christian Science textbook in my kit, but had very little time to study. I thought of the twenty-third Psalm, and was repeating part of the fifth verse, "Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies," when a message came, ordering me to go for the mail. I arrived at headquarters, and five parcels were handed to me, all bearing my name. I was informed that a mistake had been made in letting them through, for all parcels had been stopped, including those for the officers at headquarters. Each parcel, when opened, was found to contain solid food, sufficient for the whole of my section until relief came.
About fourteen years ago, I was examined by a doctor who told me that my lungs were in such a serious state that I had only three months to live. I turned unreservedly to Christian Science for help, and in a very short time my healing was complete. Since that time I have never consulted a doctor, nor have I taken medicine. I was an inveterate smoker for forty years, and had tried many times to give up the habit, but had failed. At last I asked a Christian Science practitioner for help, and the healing was instantaneous.
I have found that the study of Christian Science brings better thoughts to light, and this results in better living. I shall always be grateful to the friend who first presented this wonderful truth to me. I am also grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church; and for class instruction.—Ernest Whitfield, Castle Hill, Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia.
