About eighteen years ago I attended my first Christian Science service. I had heard of this Science, but had never paid much attention to it, except to pass rather uncomplimentary remarks about it. A friend who had been operated upon and told by the physicians that they had done all that was possible, and who "was nothing bettered," decided to try Christian Science; and not wanting to go alone, begged me to attend a Wednesday evening meeting in a near-by city, which I did. I was deeply impressed by all that I saw and heard, and by the kindness of those present, who, unknown to us then, followed our Leader's admonition to give "a cup of cold water in Christ's name" (Science and Health, p. 570) to those who were hungry and thirsty for something better than they then had. I was so eager to hear more of this religion which made people so kind and happy that I could hardly wait for the Sunday service. Suffice it to say that it was then I found and accepted the religion that has been mine ever since.
About a year later I had a severe attack of pneumonia. This began on a Monday. I called on a practitioner for help, and on Thursday I took an automobile ride. I was completely healed, and resumed my business duties the following day. This healing seemed remarkable to me, for once before I had been under the care of materia medica for at least seven weeks with the same kind of attack.
