When Christian Science was first presented to me eight...
When Christian Science was first presented to me eight years ago I was somewhat antagonized by the counsel of a practitioner who sent me this message: "Do not be content with half truths—have the whole truth, which is Christian Science." At that time I was searching hither and thither for that which would satisfy my highest aspirations, for I had not found the practical help I desired in the church in which I had been brought up.
However, in proof of the promise of Jesus, "Seek, and ye shall find," there came a day when, thoroughly tired out, and wishing to get relaxation from domestic duties for a while, I looked for something fresh to read and could not find anything. Then I remembered a copy of the Christian Science Sentinel which had been sent to me by one who was taking his first steps in this teaching. In this periodical I found that which was so beautiful, so inspiring, and so practical, to judge by the testimonies of healing which it contained, that I thought, Surely this textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy, which is quoted from so often, can have nothing better than is here; but there and then I determined to try to borrow a copy. When at last, through the kindness of a friend, one was procured for me, I began to read with a great desire to learn more of its beautiful teaching, but also with the fixed determination that I would not give up either medicine or doctors.
I believe I read for about two hours, and so mightily did Truth operate in my consciousness that I was healed of all belief in the power of medicine. It was not long before I found myself quite free from many ailments; in fact, rheumatism, indigestion, constipation, heart trouble, and biliousness completely faded out of my consciousness.
