At the age of ten years our son began to show signs of illness. I took him to several medical men, and finally had him thoroughly examined by a specialist, who diagnosed the case as one of petit mal—a minor form of epilepsy. I was told by this specialist that even though I followed his directions to the letter, he could not give me any definite assurance that a cure would be effected, but intimated that in his opinion it was more likely that the child's condition would grow worse. He stated that he could not find a cause for the illness; and on his recommendation I took the boy to an eye specialist, who stated that there was a bad curvature of the eyeball, and that in all probability he would have to wear glasses for the rest of his life. I carefully followed the instructions of the first specialist as regards diet and medicine; and the boy was constantly under the attention of our local doctor, to whom the specialist had written fully explaining the case. The condition, instead of improving, gradually grew worse.
Thinking that I had tried everything in an attempt to reclaim the health of our son, I felt that I had come to the end of all things. Then I talked with a friend whom I knew to be a Christian Scientist, and she at once told me that the boy could be healed. After consulting my husband, I called upon a Christian Science practitioner, who lovingly and painstakingly explained to me the Science of Mindhealing. I visited her many times, and always felt better for the visits, and came away with fear allayed and hope renewed. Still the discordant condition of our son continued. The practitioner then asked me to obtain the help of another practitioner, which I did. Soon after this the boy discarded his glasses, finding that he had no further use for them; and shortly afterwards all his troubles disappeared. He went to college, and that same year was one of the rifle team which won the cup for his school. The following year he was champion shot of the college, thus proving that his eyesight was fully restored. At the end of two years at college, he took his junior university examination successfully—this after four consecutive years away from school. Four years have now passed since his healing, and I feel that I can never be sufficiently grateful for what Christian Science has done for us.—(Mrs.) Rhoda Violet Blood, Dowerin, Western Australia.
