Preparing for Examinations
[Written Especially for Young People]
PREPARING for and taking an examination for an advanced college or university degree have been regarded by many as fearsome, unpleasant experiences. The Christian Scientist, equipped as he is with the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings, and able to obtain aid from a practitioner when the occasion demands, can so prepare his thought that an examination shall prove to be an occasion of joy and refreshment. This was the experience of one student of Christian Science.
Previous to the examination there was not only the usual daily study of the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly, and other reading of authorized Christian Science literature, but in addition there was a more diligent search for guidance from these sources. Furthermore, the weekly meetings of the Christian Science Organization of the university were faithfully attended, and daily visits were made to the study room of that organization.
During the review of school work there was an endeavor to realize the meaning of Mrs. Eddy's statement on page 513 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "Spirit diversifies, classifies, and individualizes all thoughts, which are as eternal as the Mind conceiving them; but the intelligence, existence, and continuity of all individuality remain in God, who is the divinely creative Principle thereof." When it was seen that the review could not be completed until the day of the examination, the belief commonly held by many that there should be a day or more of rest or change of work before taking the examination presented itself. This suggestion was silenced, however. It was seen that the intelligence which comes from God is ever present; and since man is the reflection of God, Mind, he exists at the standpoint of refreshment and receptivity to God's ideas.
