I should like to take this means of expressing my deep...
I should like to take this means of expressing my deep gratitude to God and Christian Science. Years ago I contracted a bladder trouble. At first I felt it to be of no importance, but the trouble became worse. Inasmuch as I had no confidence in the doctors, because of past experience, I used a great number of household remedies. In the meantime the complaint had advanced to such an extent that constantly, but especially at night, I had severe pain which caused me extreme fear. Also I became so unstrung nervously, because of the sleepless nights and unbearable pain, that I often harbored thoughts of suicide.
During the two previous years I had had opportunity to learn of Christian Science, but I opposed it most intensely. Now the thought came to me as a last hope, Perhaps there is help in it for me, too. At first I scarcely dared to entertain this thought; but whenever the pain was great, the thought would return; and finally, after a very severe attack, I decided to turn to Christian Science.
Thus, even though with hesitation at first, I made my way to a Christian Science practitioner one evening in June, 1931, when the pain could not be endured and I was dreading the night. As though God Himself prepared the way for me, I was able to reach the house at a late hour without difficulty and ask for help. The practitioner worked for me lovingly. A peace such as I had not known for a long time enveloped me; and when I left at midnight, I knew that God had helped me. The first thing I did when I reached home was to destroy all the material remedies I had procured, and I went to bed offering a prayer of gratitude. When I woke in the morning in the sunshine, all pain had vanished. I went about my work in joy and peace, and since that time I have been well, joyous, and grateful.
