Items of Interest

A Christian Scientist in Los Angeles, California, assures us that an Item of Interest which appeared in the Christian Science Sentinel of November 4, 1933, bore fruit in her experience. The Item was designed to encourage church members to become better acquainted with the Christian Science Benevolent Association Sanatoriums. It spoke especially of groups of Christian Scientists visiting the Chestnut Hill Sanatorium on Christmas Eve, and of the helpful weekend spent there in rest and study.

The woman who wrote from Los Angeles states that by this reminder she was prompted to spend her last Christmas vacation at the Pacific Coast Sanatorium in San Francisco. Upon driving into the grounds at night on Christmas Eve she was overjoyed at seeing the trees and grounds beautifully decorated with colored lights. The next morning she was awakened by the singing by the Associates of Christmas carols and many familiar songs from the revised Christian Science Hymnal. She writes: "My heart was filled with the joy of the Christ-spirit and gratitude for this blessed truth." On Christmas Day there was music by the Associates during the dinner. True joy and gladness prevailed throughout the house, and for this woman the experience was one of real benefit and surcease from trouble.

But she is not the only one who has written of such an experience. A Christian Scientist from Chicago visited the Sanatorium at Chestnut Hill, and afterward wrote:
