Fourteen years ago, after an accident in which my right shoulder was injured, I was told by the doctors that an operation would be necessary before I could have the use of that arm, which was hanging helpless. An X-ray picture showed that the bone fitting into the socket was shattered; and the doctors said that it would need to be sawed off and a silver plate inserted. I had always had a horror of hospitals and operations, and being a believer in prayer, I earnestly prayed to God for guidance. A friend told me of Christian Science, but I said I could not believe in it and was satisfied with my own church. She then told me of many healings among her relatives which made me wish for healing without giving up my church. At my request my friend telephoned to a practitioner and made an appointment for me. I went the next day to see the practitioner, and doubt and fear left me the moment I entered the room when she greeted me with gentle kindness and love. I took the X-ray pictures to show her, but she told me that she wanted to see the perfect man whom God made, not the picture which material hands had made. When I told her that I did not want to give up my church, she lovingly said, "You need give up nothing of good, but you have much to receive!" I secured a copy of Science and Health from the Reading Room, and read far into the night. It was on a Tuesday that I visited the practitioner, and on Saturday morning, as a result of her treatment, I arose entirely healed. I was able that morning to sweep an eight-room house, using the arm that to mortal sense had been helpless and painful for six months.

For thirty-five years I had suffered with stomach trouble; I had had seven doctors and had spent a great deal of money in seeking a cure. I was healed of this trouble in three Christian Science treatments. Since then I have had many healings, including those of lameness and a growth on my eyelid, for all of which I wish to express sincere and heartfelt gratitude. I am grateful to be a member of The Mother Church and of a branch church, and am happy to serve in any way. I am also grateful to God for my many blessings, and to Mrs. Eddy, who gave this truth to the world.
