To say that "Christian Science has no right to the name...

Evening World

To say that "Christian Science has no right to the name of Christian" shows plainly an ignorance of the subject. Mrs. Eddy writes in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 30), "The stale saying that Christian Science 'is neither Christian nor science!' is to-day the fossil of wisdomless wit, weakness, and superstition."

The root meaning of the word "science" is from the Latin scientia, meaning knowledge, and according to a dictionary it denotes the "knowledge of principles or facts." So Christian Science imparts a knowledge of the spiritual facts which enables one to demonstrate the teachings of our Master, Christ Jesus, who said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." The word "know" can be translated "understand." Thus, understand the Principle of this truth, and this understanding will make you free. The fruits of this full salvation from sin, sickness, and disease have been tasted by countless thousands, who can say with the Psalmist, "O taste and see that the Lord is good."

Christian Science, far from being unchristian, as your correspondent suggests, teaches that the Bible truths are available today. "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 497).
