I have been interested in Christian Science for many...
I have been interested in Christian Science for many years and have derived much good from it.
When I was a boy I had measles, which left me with weak eyes and a bad cough. The cough would come at the beginning of winter and last until warm weather, and because of my eyes I was kept out of school practically all of three years. After finishing the eighth grade of school I learned telegraphy and worked at it for several years, when my working arm gave out. A physician told me that on account of my eyes and the bad cough, besides my having to work at night, I would have to give up office work. I then went on the railroad to work as a brakeman; and as time went on the cough continued to grow worse, until I was not able to lie down to sleep, and could not retain even a swallow of water. Then the physician told my wife that I had chronic bronchitis, and that when a case like that became chronic the doctors might just as well give up, as there was no material remedy for it. The only chance I had was in a change of climate, and in my weakened condition I could not stand the trip.
It was then that we were told about Christian Science, and although we had no faith in it I was ready to try anything that offered relief. I am grateful to say that after three weeks' treatment I was able to return to my work in the freight service and was out in all kinds of weather, day and night, without any bad effects. Having the desire then to go back to my former work as a telegrapher, so that I might be at home, I made application for a position, and in a short time I was placed; and after having Christian Science treatment for my arm I can now do my work very successfully.
