In the April 22 edition of your paper, under the caption "Told by Telegraph," a New York lady is reported to have said in reply to a query as to whether or not she was still a philosophical anarchist: "I am an anarchist, just a plain anarchist. A philosophical anarchist is like a Christian Scientist. It is neither Christian nor scientific."

Christian Science is based on a spiritual interpretation of the Bible and especially on the words and works of the Master, Christ Jesus, who said that those who understood or believed him would do the works that he did. He clearly defined these works as healing the sick, the sinning, and the brokenhearted. He further stated that "by their fruits ye shall know them." The fact that the practice of Christian Science produces these very works, and that Christian Scientists wish to be judged by their fruits, shows that this Science is Christian. This religion is also scientific because the science of a subject, such as the science of mathematics or music, is the exact knowledge or provable truth about that subject; and Christian Science is the exact knowledge or provable truth about Christianity.

The statement that Christian Science—a religion that has healed unnumbered thousands of human beings, lifting them out of physical and mental pain into joy and peace—is "neither Christian nor scientific" is so threadbare and baseless that it was rather a surprise to see it turn up again.
