Mount of Prayer

Sweet mount of prayer! With earliest morning light
My waking thought with joy ascends to thee;
Within thy quietude I seek God's face,
And always find Him waiting there for me,
Waiting to gird me with His strength and power;
He knows my need, and that throughout the day
My trusting heart will turn to Him each hour,
And seek His loving counsel all the way.

At noontide, when a multitude of thoughts
Would throng me with demands of strain or stress,
The peace I gained in thy clear light at dawn
Remains; and with uplifted consciousness
I thank my Father for His constant care,
And that, whate'er the evidence may be,
Nearer, yet more at one with Him I am
Because my day began with Truth in thee.

And now, within the evening's still, calm glow,
A radiant joy, peaceful as birds at rest,
Steals o'er my grateful heart, that I may know
Through prayer unceasing all mankind is blest;
The consciousness illumined with God's grace
Becomes His sanctuary now and here.
Yea, early will I seek my Father's face
Within Truth's sacred shrine, the mount of prayer.
