Some Comments Regarding Church Membership
A Recent applicant for membership in The Mother Church wrote, "I have always thought that one should be perfect and have had many wonderful demonstrations before one could become a member." This statement presents a wrong impression regarding the requirements for membership in The Mother Church.
A study of the qualifications for admission to membership in The Mother Church makes this clear. These qualifications are set forth by our Leader in Article IV, Sections I and 2, of the Manual as follows:
"Section 1. To become a member of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass., the applicant must be a believer in the doctrines of Christian Science, according to the platform and teaching contained in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Rev. Mary Baker Eddy. The Bible, together with Science and Health and other works by Mrs. Eddy, shall be his only textbooks for self-instruction in Christian Science, and for teaching and practising metaphysical healing."
