Destroying Mental Pictures

As if in amplification of the first of the Ten Commandments, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me," the second prohibits the making, worshiping, or serving of graven images or the likeness of any material thing. Because they have entertained false concepts of God and His creation, including man, students of the Bible, generally speaking, have had a limited view of what is implied by the images referred to in the second commandment. With most people this instruction has been regarded as indicating idol worship solely, and therefore as not applicable to them. Likewise, a restricted and material view has been taken of God's command voiced by Moses that the children of Israel should "drive out all the inhabitants" of Canaan "and destroy all their pictures."

False, distorted, darkening, and limited interpretations of these and other Scriptural passages are dispelled by the clear light of spiritual revelation furnished by Mrs. Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." And the best part of it is that each person can prove the statements of the truth contained in this book for himself in the healing or correcting of discordant conditions including sickness and sin, and thus verify the correctness of the spiritual interpretation of the Bible. The study of Science and Health together with faithful application of its teachings enables honest students to prove Christ Jesus' promise recorded by John, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also." Christian Science acquaints us with Christ Jesus as the Way-shower and furnishes the rules whereby all may follow the Christly example of him who was manifested "that he might destroy the works of the devil"—sin, sickness, fear, limitation, death.

Students of Christian Science gain a new and broader base for their consideration of all subjects as they learn to think and reason from the Scriptural premise that God, Truth, is infinite Mind. From this premise the inevitable conclusion is deduced that all is perfect, divine Mind and its spiritually mental manifestation. Indeed, we find that even in the realm of human experience everything is primarily mental; that business is the expression of thinking; and that the physical body is merely the objectification of material beliefs, the servant of thought, and is not self-acting as it appears to be. Proof of this lies in the healing of all manner of disease by Christian Science, for in these healings, not the material body but the thought controlling it, is considered, and is corrected by the power of Truth.
