Many times I have desired to write a testimony to express my gratitude for Christian Science. I did not take up the study for physical healing. I began to read Mrs. Eddy's books in the year 1905, and from the first I felt quite confident that they contained the practical teaching of Christianity. I had been brought up in an orthodox church and fully accepted the Scriptures as I then understood them, but I was painfully aware how little of Scriptural teaching was used in daily life or in the business world.
In 1907 I had an experience which showed me very clearly the transitory nature of all human happiness, and that sickness and death are the common lot of mortals. This experience made me spend most of my leisure time in the study of Christian Science literature, and only by so doing did I feel capable of living a normal life. At that time there were few people in this city who knew anything about Christian Science, and I was very much alone. It was a great joy and help to me that the Christian Science students who visited here would often come to my home and talk about the help and enlightenment they had gained.
About this time I became subject to heart trouble, which kept me awake at night for some months. Every time this trouble threatened, I would take "Rudimental Divine Science," and conform my thinking as best I could to Mrs. Eddy's answers to the first four questions contained therein. This healed me, and there has been no return of the trouble. A dictionary was frequently used to obtain a fuller understanding. I am thankful to state that through the study of the Christian Science textbook, and without a definite effort at treatment, rheumatism, chilblains, colds, and a cast in one eye disappeared.
