Joy
In the third epistle of John we read, "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth." How quickly disappointment, unhappiness, and discontent would disappear if the truth underlying this statement were generally understood and applied in human affairs! Here we have a concept of joy that is far removed from the world's concept of joy and happiness. Here joy and truth are linked together. The Christian Scientist soon learns that joy and truth always walk hand in hand; that they are inseparable.
What is this truth that brings unfailing joy and abiding peace to one's self and others? It is the truth about God, His illimitable love, His unbounded goodness, His eternal unchangeableness. It is the scientific fact, revealed by Christ Jesus and Christian Science, that God is not only the creator or cause of the universe, but the infinite, tender, and ever merciful Father-Mother of all His children. This divine fatherhood and motherhood of God, this all-encompassing Love, enfolds all being; not one idea could ever be beyond the boundary of this all-inclusive presence.
Spiritual life is the spontaneous expression of Love, and Love overbroods and enfolds every manifestation of Life. No idea of true creation could ever become separated or detached from this boundless Love, which sustains and maintains all reality in harmony and immaculate perfection.
