In writing about Christian Science and its Discoverer and Founder in his letter of April 13, "T. B. B." shows a lack of knowledge of these subjects.

Mrs. Eddy teaches no new doctrine. Her teaching is based on the Bible, and she says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 110), "The Bible was my only textbook." Christian Science reveals how healing through spiritual means, as taught and practiced by Christ Jesus—the Way-shower—is accomplished. The rules of spiritual healing are clearly set forth in Science and Health for anyone to prove and practice.

Our friend writes: "If she [Mrs. Eddy] preaches what is in it [the Bible] we do not need it." The answer to this is the fact that the Christian Science textbook, known the world over, reveals the spiritual and practical meaning of the Bible. It is therefore self-evident that the teachings of Mrs. Eddy are needed. There are multitudes of Christians who are perfectly satisfied with what their religion means to them in their lives. On the other hand, there are millions who are not satisfied. They suffer from sin, disease, unemployment, financial difficulties, and other discordant conditoins. These people are reaching out for something to bring them peace, health, and prosperity, and records prove that thousands upon thousands are finding the relief they seek in the study and practice of Christian Science. No religion should be condemned when it is bringing good to suffering humanity.
