In Science and Health (p. 589), Mary Baker Eddy defines "Jesus" as "the highest human corporeal concept of the divine idea, rebuking and destroying error and bringing to light man's immortality." On page 583 of the same book she defines "Christ" as "the divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error." The human Jesus disappeared, but the Christ continues to exist and to take away the sins of the world.
Christian Science teaches that Christ Jesus was the perfect Exemplar, the Way-shower who never made an error; and that mortals are saved by walking in the pathway trod by him.
Christian Science was revealed to Mrs. Eddy as the result of her consecrated study of the Bible. There is no error in Christian Science. It is the reinstatement of primitive Christianity. It is in perfect accord with the teachings of Jesus, and is restoring primitive Christian healing, which was practiced for three centuries after the time of Jesus.
