Spiritual Unfoldment

The Apostle Paul said to the Galatians, "Who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?" Mrs. Eddy quotes this question in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 326) following her statement, "Working and praying with true motives, your Father will open the way." Oh, blessed assurance! There is no doubt here; and if the motive is pure, the working and praying earnestly, joyously, and diligently continued, there need be no delay, no uncertainty as to the result.

Sometimes the temptation seems very strong to believe that there is a power without that can hinder one's advancement; that can delay the unfoldment of divine activity in one's experience. As one watches the opening of a leaf or a flower, a good lesson is learned in the process of development. Given normal conditions the bud exercises its natural development, and the process goes on until the blossom appears in all its beauty and fragrance.

Untoward conditions without should make one more earnest, more diligent, more active in right doing in order that he may reap a rich and fruitful harvest when his work is finished. The faithful worker goes on from one overcoming to the next with renewed courage, enthusiasm, and a stronger incentive to let the Christ likeness appear where the vanishing finite concept had seemed to hold sway, even as the tight calyx had seemed to imprison the flower.
