Assets and Liabilities

The treasurer of a Christian Science church is laboring for God and for His Cause. Since he is an agent or trust officer, working under divine orders, the office of treasurer should carry healing with it as do other activities of the Christian Science church.

The branch church treasurer, as well as the church board of directors or trustees and all church members, should realize that under God's omnipotent law there is no lack or limitation; that there is in reality nothing to obstruct or retard the normal, legitimate flow of supply to meet the just demand. Each should understand, also, that supply comes through the operation of the law of God, who is the source of infinite good and omniscient wisdom.

In Christian Science churches the endeavor is made to choose wisely the individuals who are to fill the church offices, knowing that God's children have all the qualities needed for any office. Men can be trained by schooling, experience, and application to do specific routine work. It is no great task, for instance, to learn how to keep what is termed a good set of books, write a legible hand, and prove a trial balance. Solving metaphysical problems, however, requires close communion with God. Wide sympathy, unfailing compassion, and a tender sense of the Father's loving-kindness are necessary, and often much patience is required. Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 380), "Truth is always the victor." When there is seeming opposition in the work; when the tide of mortal mind is apparently running against or contrary to what is regarded as the best interests of the church, it has been found in the experience of those of ripe wisdom and broad vision that often patient waiting is part of the healing process.
