Because of the wisdom of my parents, who accepted the teachings of Christian Science when I was a baby, I have been privileged to know the value of its applications. During my early school career my parents' Christian Science work protected me. Later, in high school and in college and subsequently in the business world, I have been able to apply these teachings for myself.

There is one physical healing in my own experience which may prove encouraging and helpful to others. It was particularly beautiful to me because it was the first time I turned unreservedly to Christian Science for help and allowed myself to make no reference to the condition until after the healing was complete. I had never asked anyone except my parents for help, and I was finding that when questioned about physical healing in Christian Science I was not at all clear in my explanations, and there was a growing desire to know how this healing was really accomplished.

Upon graduation from high school, I was awarded a scholarship which sent me to one of the highest accredited colleges. In order to secure additional funds needed, I worked for a regular number of hours each week in operating the telephone switchboard at the main dormitory. I did not at that time know how to protect myself from erroneous suggestions, and so, after the oft-repeated expression that I must find this particularly nerve-racking work, I found myself in April of the junior year faced with all sense of hearing in the left ear entirely gone. In the classroom when one person was speaking, I could hear by listening very intently, but in the dining room, I could barely understand the person who sat next to me. When this condition became apparent to me I was greatly troubled. I was reluctant to speak of it to anyone because I did not wish to arouse any more fear than I was already experiencing. Then I remembered my desire to know how healing work in Christian Science was accomplished. So I set about to discover this from reading the textbook, Science and Health.
