Because of the many blessings that have come to me through Christian Science, and the comfort and help received from the testimonies of others, this expression of gratitude is given in genuine sincerity. Through Christian Science peace, comfort, guidance, protection, provision, and health have come to me, and greatest of all, a growing understanding of God, of His ever loving care for us, and of our inseparability from Him.

When I had been studying Christian Science but a short time, I started, one evening, to take some medicine for constipation, which I had had many years and for which the doctors had said I should always have to take medicine. A student of Christian Science was with me at the time, and after speaking the words, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me," she went out of the room and left me alone. I did not take the medicine, and I shall never forget the awakening from the belief that there was then or ever had been any power or help in it. I realized that I had been making a god of medicine, and I saw that false god—false belief—crumble into nothingness. With the loving help of a Christian Science practitioner I was healed of the trouble; and though that was several years ago the healing has been permanent. At the same time normal action returned to an ankle which, through injury two years before, had been entirely stiff during that period.

For sixteen years I had worn glasses, and was told that it would be impossible for me ever to be without them. The doctors had said that certain light rays caused severe headaches; and because of this the lenses in the glasses were shaded. With the use of the Concordance, my husband was reading to me passages on light, and when a correct understanding of light came to me, with Mrs. Eddy's words in Science and Health (p. 510), "Light is a symbol of Mind, of Life, Truth, and Love and not a vitalizing property of matter," fear of it was destroyed, and I was healed. This was over two and a half years ago, and though much close work has been done during that time, I have not needed or worn glasses.
