From the Field

[Semiannual Report of Committee on Christian Science Work in the Army and Navy at Los Angeles, California]

On page 234 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" our beloved Leader has written: "Whatever inspires with wisdom, Truth, or Love—be it song, sermon, or Science—blesses the human family with crumbs of comfort from Christ's table, feeding the hungry and giving living waters to the thirsty."

Recently, an inmate of the National Military Home at Sawtelle received a crumb of comfort from simply reading the words on the sticker which the committee provides, and which is placed on all literature distributed by the worker. This man states his experience as follows: "As I read this sticker the thought came to me: For fifteen years I have been a Sunday school teacher and loyal member of a Protestant church; for over five years I have been suffering from a stomach trouble that the doctors are now advising cannot be cured without an operation, and none of my brethren can, or have, offered me a crumb of comfort, and here, I find, is a body of people who do not know anything about me, yet are still willing to do what they can for me; and as I read the literature I decided to ask the worker to come and have a talk with me. Christian Science treatments were given and in a short time I was entirely healed. My wife and I are now earnest students of this truth and wish to express our gratitude for the loving work that is carried on by the churches."

This is one of the twenty-five cases that have been discharged from the institutions as healed during the past six months.
