Our New Hymnal

I walked within a garden fair,
And talked with Him;
I fought a valiant battle there,
My eyes were dim
With grateful tears; each page I took
As mine, for thus my lovely book
Was pointing me to upward look.

I read the hymns with thankful heart,
With open thought,
The loveliness of Love appeared,
And healing brought;
For mortal sense with darkened mien
Fast disappeared as it was seen
How gently sweet Love is, and keen.

For as I read, perception clear
Showed me the way;
I saw how gently Love dispels
Bold error's sway.
To uplift thought in purpose pure
Brings radiant life, serene and sure,
Then dwells the Christ within, secure.

Have you walked in this garden fair,
And talked with Him,
And gleaned the glories gathered there?
Were your eyes dim
With joy to see how God's good grace
Has shown to us a holy place
Where we may meet Him face to face?
