Signs of the Times
[Rev. Russell Henry Stafford, as quoted in the Boston Herald, Massachusetts]
The way Jesus lived is more persuasive than any argument in support of the colossal audacity of the tenet that the spirit of loving-kindness is sovereign throughout creation—which is the very truth.
To love, to be kind, to be gentle and generous, to help and heal, to withstand every provocation and go right on treating those who mistreat us as if they were our best friends, to be sensitive to need whenever we encounter it and to be eager to relieve it, without self-importance, without demanding praise or asking any price for our services save the joy of serving—that does turn out to be a way, to be indeed the only way, to be really happy.
