No Incurable Disease
A Few years ago in a certain large city there was a medical hospital named "Home for Incurables," and most of those who were sent there accepted the doctors' dictum of incurability. One man, however, who was consigned to that institution, had heard of Christian Science and its healing ministry, and he asked for Christian Science treatment. Although his human body was in the atmosphere of that hospital, he learned through Christian Science to lift his thought into a higher, happier, healthier, holier atmosphere; and he was healed completely. After the doctors in charge of the institution had pronounced him cured, they concluded that a mistake had been made in the name of the home, and the sign "Home for Incurables" was removed.
Christ Jesus proved that there is no incurable disease. By means of his understanding of God and His law of perfection and harmony those who had been deaf and dumb both heard and spoke; the maimed were made whole; lepers were cleansed; in fact, he healed "all manner of sickness and all manner of disease." The Master did not classify illness as acute or chronic, nor did he consider time a determining factor in his healing work. The man at the pool of Bethesda who had had an infirmity for thirty-eight years was freed from that bondage immediately, as was a woman whose body had been bowed together for eighteen years; and a man who had been born blind received his sight instantly when he obeyed Christ Jesus' instructions. Truly divine power cannot be limited in its application.
Not only did the Master instruct his immediate disciples to heal the sick by means of applied spiritual power and law, but he commanded them, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, ... teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you." In direct fulfillment of this instruction Mrs. Eddy was led to discover the divine Science of the mighty Master's teaching and practice, for the light of this healing truth dawned on her thought as she pondered an account of one of his healings recorded by Matthew. By means of Mrs. Eddy's discovery as elucidated in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," men are enabled to follow the example of the great Christian healer, for in this book the true concept of God, divine Principle, and the rules of Christian healing are made plain. Many honest, humble seekers for the truth have been and are being healed of so-called incurable diseases through perusing Science and Health and obeying its teachings. Indeed, Christian Science has removed the tag or sign of incurability from many a hitherto discouraged one by pointing to, positing, and then proving Christ Jesus' statement, "With God all things are possible."
