May I thank "Observer" for his interesting comments on Christian Science in your last issue, and express appreciation of many beautiful thoughts therein expressed. While not considering his "Obiter Dicta" in any way an attack on Christian Science, I shall be grateful if you will allow me the privilege of comment from the point of view of Christian Science.

Your correspondent states a great fact when he says, "Christianity ... is the great mind healer." It may be interesting to note that the purpose of the Christian Science church, as stated at its inauguration in 1879, was "to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing" (Church Manual, p. 17, by Mary Baker Eddy). All that Christian Science claims to be is a return to the Christianity that heals the sick in accordance with the commands of Christ Jesus, on whose words, works, and commands Christian Science is squarely and unreservedly founded. There is no doubt that the works of healing formed an essential part of primitive Christianity and were demanded by the Master as the "signs following" the correct understanding of his teachings. He said, "And these signs shall follow them that believe; ... they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."
